Thank you for "your view." Please realize not all people feel one does not grow when faced in crisis and mistakes. I think John D will continue to do what's best for this community as he has proven. His knowledge of kids and what our community needs is very wide. His intelligence is mighty and to err is human. It has been the Pilot's goal to rid of John D since he won the election. I've never been able to be convinced as to why. Strong leaders question people (and supervisors) and hope to make one reflect for the better of the community. What he did wasn't ok by any means, but who doesn't have someone they can trust to get things off their chest? And yes, he wrote them at work, but the hours he put in, I'm sure it wasn't on work "time."
It more than upseting as I reflect of the timing of Mr. Gleason's resignation and the Pilot's "news of the letters." It's all such a coincidence with the Superintenden's "up in the air" article. Sounds like people were plotting for a while.
Perhaps the town is not ready for a more liberal thinking board (and one knows the paper is not), that actually holds the Super. accountable like all staff members should be held.
A move in the right direction was done when the new board was voted in; the Pilot has not given this board an inch to do any of the jobs at hand - they keep throwing the unncesssary wrenches. It's not as though Dr. D said those words today.
In a perfect world where ALL were flawless, John would have made that comment to Joby- and I know he wishes he did. But he's ONLY human; he's remorseful and he wants to continue to serve this community in a positive mannar. I believe if he does continue on this board, he will only keep the goals in mind and not stray. (as I felt he has).
I'ts shocking to me the people who left the board are still ruling the reigns. There's reasons why people move on and are voted out!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really this community needs a more forward thinking board.
One final thought - those who know Dr. D, know his passion has always been his strength and weakness. Whatver John decides to do, I will be there through thick and thin, because as a parent in his school, I've seen that passion and I believe in it.
The people in this community should not be intimidated by what they believe is right and wrong. I know Dr. D. shouldn't either. I know he's learned through this one and will continue to go far in life. Only the good survive. (I do believe "bad guys never prosper!!" We just might not always know how.)
And to the mystery person who delivered the emails...what comes around, goes around. I wonder what your benefit was in this....that could be another headliner! It really IS a small town and to some, it may not be a mystery at all?
Nice reflection and your sincerity to this community is obvious!! It takes a strong person to face up to their mistakes and one with high morals.
Denise, the new board and Dr. D are on the right track. As retired public educators, I believe they DO know exactly what our youth need in this community.
It would be absolutely appauling if there were an effort (especially led by former board members) to push for a resignation. Clearly, they have their OWN agenda! I'm still wondering WHO delivered these emails and WHO directed Dr. D's computer to be investigated?!!!!!
They need to let the new board members do their job - and get over the "As the Pilot Turns" saga and stance the paper has taken also.
I am very happy there will be no resignations. It's not needed, the apology was and it was well written. The emails are NOT about the current Super. and Dr. D has done NOTHING to prove to me he has his own agenda, besides putting your kids first. As he did when he was the SPE Principal for 20 -- 20 --- 20 years, people. Right here in our community because he DOES care & has loved this community. Adults, kids and even those who think he has his own agenda- who probably haven't even been a part of this community near as long and no ZERO history.
Has anybody realized people are usually "chomping at the bit" for these VOLUNTEER positions? That very FEW candidates have running opponents and John D was one who won by a landslide....... of the actual popular vote.
Now ALL the vandettas need to stop - it's getting so old. The Super. needs to work for the people who are led by the people through are elected officials.
I'm always amazed how people could comment of others' opinions in such an umbrella statement : "Dr. D has lost the respect of most in this community and should resign."
How would one define "most?" and what's the margin of error?
I only speak for myself and I believe whatever Dr. D decides (to resign or stay) is because it's what he believes is best for the community, and most importantly for the kids of this community.
I think the Pilot needs to step back on THEIR OWN agendas (and where is that lawsuit scandal anyway?)
And are "the people" in this section commenting on their own experiences or are they commenting on the (slanted) opinions of the Pilot? It's a shame because the paper itself has a lot to offer, but then they report slander on people. Why didn't the paper report the excellent work of the proud students who presented a issue about recycling & being environmentally correct?
I trust the new school board does not have their own agenda, and know a lot more than I do about what the REAL issues are in the schools.
I have heard they are out & about actively SEEKING information about what's best for YOUR kids. They are a long lost needed voice. We (the people) elect the school and they speak for us (the people) and the super. works for "the people - through the board." I think the new school board not only listens, but hears us--the people.
And those who personally know any of the current board member, know they ONLY have and has ALWAYS had the best interest of YOUR kids in mind - especially the past successful Principal, who my kids still adore and miss greatly.

Gotta love threats- Two former educators in our community, led by a formal school board member, wants to recall .
Talk about private agendas and vandettas. It's embarrasing for all those involved.
