I saw the Chris Watson Band at Ghost Ranch I think Oct 9, he was fantastic! I know he has played opener for Kenny Wayne Shephard last summer free concert and was at Ghost Randh over July 4 wkend. Really good. He's not that well known - YET - but he's getting there cuz I heard him on the radio. I think he would be great, lots of energy. BHT is kinda boring.
Lets get going! The minute the buildings went down, another should have gone up. Prior planning prevents poor performance. It looks as though there was no prior planning, except the part about tearing the buildings down and creating an eyesore. What were they thinking???
OMG, 10 years.....they should have started building the minute they tore down all the businesses and their livelihood and the vitality of the mountain area. All I can say is that it is BLEAK up there. Do you honestly think this will attract tourism? Repeat business? Our counsel members should drive through Breckenridge and drool over the vitality of their city. Our mountain area has been disintegrated - rebuilding immediately should be the focus.
Chris, I'll be on top of Rabbit Ears with you flying a welcome flag. It's insane in this economy to consider not taking this proposal.
colobob, I appreciate your candor. According to the above article,TC saw the reality of what SB can offer, and thats what brought all this up. They know SB can't handle the anticipated TC growth pattern. It's not likely that TC will produce a plan for investing capital to produce new fields or to fix up the old ones. They don't need to becuase they could and would find another place to play without such an investment.
One scenario mentioned by TC in the article is to split the World Series into two locations which would keep the number of teams in SB at its current level. Another is to take it somewhere else. Those who took that as a threat are off base in my humble opinion. They are simply making a non-emotional business decision, as they should (and as SB should). My other humble opinion is that the since the revenue generated is substantial and thus the city benefits monetarily by a significant amount (that many zeros behind a dollar sign is substantial), and local businesses benefit, I hope that on some sane level there is a solution to keep them coming to SB.
The city council has its hands full with a number of important issues all revolving around the problems with growth.
All tough issues.
I'm signing off. All the comments were interesting.
Let's not forget that every business in town is a 'tourist business' business. It is especially the local business owners who rely on tourists. The big box businesses not so much. The local family owned businesses trying to make a living in a tourist town, guess what, rely on tourists. So, please don't diss the comments from those whose livelihood relies on the city promoters promoting tourism. TC is probably like the three week Christmas - New Year holiday season for the local businesses.
By the way, in case your local eyes have been tunnel visioned to avoid gazing around the city (especially those who believe that the locals drive only small hybrids......) the franchises have arrived and their numbers are growing.
So the comments are from either the support side of the ledger or the throw the sob's out of Steamboat side of the ledger.
Traffic seems to be the biggest complaint, next to 'life would be better here' (violins please), rude people (SB has plenty of their own, no offense, you know who you are) and if TC didn't come here there wouldn't be the need for better roads (what??) or those who want life in SB like the 70's with the Good Taste Crepe Shop and Sidestep burritos and the El Rancho Cafe. And I'm really sad about the Tugboats likely demise but that's not TC's fault, that's just progress. Great memories but life in SB will never be like those days again. The world is changing and SB right along with it. SB is growing.
TC is not the devil in baseball uniform. TC wants to bring our businesses lots and lots of dollars.
Do you create $1.19 million of tax revenue to SB in three weeks? Yeah, me neither.
Yeah, and while we're complaining, we should cancel the snow and keep ALL the tourists out of town for the whole winter. A couple of them got drunk and into a fight I heard about. Who wants that?
And cancel all the building that's tearing up the mountain and downtown. I hate all the construction dust and 18 wheelers going down Lincoln. All that building is for those lousey tourists who want to buy million dollar condos and spend their money here.
How about only advertising for civilized tourists. We should have anyone who wants to come to SS to take a test......
What's wrong with you guys? Our own end of the ski season had to be patrolled by police because of the drunken LOCALS.
1.19 million in tax revenues is a lot of revenue for you guys to be complaining about for a three week stint of baseball.
Are any of you complainers business owners?
