Our View: Dollar Game fun but don’t expect much

First off, thanks to the Pilot for this View! It's unfortunate that we are a service city and everyone wants their programs and services. A great point brought up is that you cant challenge how much is assigned to each service. Currently we are are adding jobs to help with some staff that can't do their jobs because they can't ski...why wasn't that on the survey.
We've done community surveys in the past, how come those weren't used?
As for the the free bus service, it's mostly subsidized by the Federal Government to the tune of %90 because its free. If we charged for bus, we would lose most of that money from the federal government.

County, Steamboat and Oak Creek voters OK marijuana dispensaries

The voters have spoken, whether you like it or not Joel Rae...but you being a City paid employee should have never spoken publicly about this issue anyway, it's not your job! Now do some real work and keep your mouth shut about like the rest of us and serve our constituents!

Emerald land purchase celebrated in Steamboat Springs

As a city employee I think this is a great purchase, even though Lyman would have probably gifted it to the city in the future. The biggest fear for me is the EMP group. Yes, the city is cutting back, more and more while EMP wants to expand trails and uses for this land. This city has TONS of land ASSESTS, for Parks and Open Space which are rich for recreational opportunities! However, we find ourselves on the brink of cutting services if our budget gets cut for the 2012 year. In the past, City Council has help direct the budget when their was money to throw around, but now they are so stuck on their own personal views that they don't see what this community has elected them to do. I urge you Council, to get more involved...see what this community wants through the million surveys we've done in the past 10 years and figure out how we can sustain or even improve our level of service! We owe it to our community! Talk about a Rec Tax or Rec District that loosen the the Budget concerns and boost our recreational amentities! I know I would support such direction and im sure others in this communty feal the same! Get r done!

City to consider paying a portion of overtime hours to speed up US 40 project

Steamboat is a unigue town, we all care about everything that happens here! This project is happing at the best time for all of though...Mud season and recession. Im not saying Scott is doing a good job or a bad job, but they could care less about our community and our needs and wants. The city should NOT pay for overtime for this project! However, take that Money and spend it on something that would bring the community together or bring people into our community! A multiple day free concert? Stay positive...its really not that bad....yet

Evidence in assault sent to CBI

Just a thought! 3 attacks in the past couple of weeks...hmm. I hope the DNA leads to an arrest! Also, what group of construction workers have been in town for the last 3 weeks? This community needs no part in this type of crime, lets help everyone be safe!

Solomon campaigns through background in public service

Did the Tax Advisory Committee review the Use Tax that we never collected before 2008? Does that make Ken a Builder on the Committee who looked the other way because he did not want an added cost to him or the customer? Anyway, not much advising seems to have gone on, the city lost MILLIONS in taxes that could have helped many Capital Improvement Projects!
Another thing too...the Welcome mat is what we all came here for! The people and our environment make Steamboat the place people want to live. You had a Welcome mat, I had Welcome mat...and my future friends and future leaders of the community should have a Welcome mat!
How many Welcome mats did you buy for the houses you built? How many of those people are second home owners or moved to the valley when you built their home? Now your retired...it doesn't make you tired of building!
Smarth Growth Will be our Future!
