I agree with you ID. I live in a town near Atlanta. I came to this town with an open mind after growing up in the North. Where I live now we have plenty of diversity. (it's 50% African American). We also have one of the worse public school systems in the country, one of the worse crime rate in the country (we actually one year got the infamous award for being the highest murder rate in the country) and high taxes.In the last 6 years I have had my car broken into 3 times and my garage two times.
I visit the Steamboat "bubble" once a year and would love to stay in it . I am sure it is very easy for people who do not live with the diversity that I live with to look down on people who think that diversity is not what it is all cracked up to be. This is because their idea of diversity is much different than what diversity really is.
Why don't you all give the DA's office a little credit. It is not easy for public officials, who are paid to work with in an adversarial system, to back down when it is the right thing to do. I live in a town with one of the highest propery crime rates in the country. I have had my car broken into twice in the last year and my garage once. I must say it is refreshing to see a place where they take property crime seriously. It is no fun to live in a place where property crime is not taken seriously and you have to nail everything down or it will disappear. Believe me you don't want a system in which DA's are not aggressive. There were alot of people other than the DA that had to go along with the original sentence. It sounds like to me that alot of the posts are more about pushing an agenda or grinding an ax and not about the reasonable resolution of a problem.
Oh my gosh! What is Steamboat going to do? Some attorney (the 9:40 am posting) from New York City is not coming to Steamboat next year. If that word gets out, there will be an outcry to arrest two more hippies. LOL -Lawyer from Ga. who is still coming to ski. I'll just stay out of the dumpsters and avoid Deputy DA Fife.
