Routt County approves new oil well

Dumping toxic chemicals in the ground. What could go wrong?
Objecting to testing once a year? Come on.

Hopefully the EPA will fix what it broke soon before we do too much damage.

Routt County residents voice concerns at oil, gas event

All the way around this is bad. Bad for the environment and bad for tourism.

No matter what is promised all the toxic chemicals will cause issues at some point. How could dumping 25 cancer causing chemicals that are hazardous to life into the earth not be. Pretty obvious.

Let's not let oil and gas ruin where we live as it has ruined other communities.

Our View: Getting ready for boom or bust

"A U.S. Congressional report released in April showed that the 14 most active hydraulic fracturing companies in the United States together used nearly 3 billion liters of fracking fluid, not including water. The products contained at least 29 chemicals that are known or possible human carcinogens."

"In Garfield County, there were signs this was already happening. Animals that had produced offspring like clockwork each spring stopped delivering healthy calves, according to Liz Chandler, a veterinarian in Rifle, Co. A bull went sterile, and a herd of beef cows stopped going into heat, as did pigs. In the most striking case, sheep bred on an organic dairy farm had a rash of inexplicable still births -- all in close proximity to drilling waste pits, where wastewater that includes fracturing fluids is misted into the air for evaporation."

What do you think about oil and gas exploration in Routt County?

Watch this movie and decide for yourself.
Research it and you will find that it is not scare tactics, but the ridiculous truth of the EPA looking the other way during the Bush / Cheney era.
What a mess.

Mountain biking trail work at Steamboat Ski Area pushes forward

Things take time. It is going to happen.

Mountain biking trail work at Steamboat Ski Area pushes forward

36 miles of trails would be amazing, but is only the start of what could be done. Creating a mountain biking destination will bring money to town. Lift access biking is exactly like skiing and why not have year round fun. Designating trails downhill only removes the danger of someone getting seriously hurt and is just smart.

There are hiking only trails already on the mountain and I'm sure more will follow as trails get developed in phases.

This is a good thing and whining about nonsense won't help the cause of more trails. Let's get behind ski corp and make the mountain more fun for all in the summer.

Freestyle downhill biking causing a stir at Steamboat's Creekside Trail

Bottom line.. hiking on trails that people downhill on will lead to injuries or worse. It is just not a good idea. The sign at the bottom should go back up before some unknowing person hikes their way into a serious injury.

Not really the way to bike town usa.
