Rhys, You're right that the "at" in the headline is unnecessary. It was inserted by the copy desk last night to make the spacing and alignment of the one-column, front-page headline in the print version of the newspaper look better. It certainly didn't need to be included in the online version.
Tom, I'm absolutely embarrassed by my misspelling of your name. I'm sure I could try to come up with an excuse for why it happened, but the bottom line is I committed one of the biggest sins in journalism. I have corrected it in the online version, and I will publish a correction on the front of tomorrow's paper. Thanks again for your submission, and I apologize for this humiliating blunder.
Hi Jessica, Thanks for your comments on the editorial. We agree that there were reasons the proposed calendar didn't make sense (and we mentioned as much in the editorial), but the Editorial Board contends that the lack of other proposals — particularly that a longer school year for all students hasn't emerged as an obvious solution — is what's most troubling.
Hi Melanie: We're working on adding a "like" feature to our comments section, but it's not something that's quite ready to launch. Good idea, and one that other readers have suggested as well.
Kevin: No, the archived comments won't have the real names of the posters attached to them. Those posters made those comments when our policy allowed for anonymity, and we will continue to honor that for those contributors. However, if existing posters choose to begin posting with their actual identities by going back through the verification process, their previous posts will show their names.
Spidermite and others: You are right in that part of this policy change will involve more rigorous enforcement of our online commenting policies. We believe the combination of the two will result in a better online experience for all of our readers. Thanks, as always, for the honest feedback.
Hebo: We made the decision to disable comments yesterday afternoon when we first published the story online because we were in the midst of trying to report on a serious plane crash at Yampa Valley Regional Airport and knew we didn't have the staffing to effectively monitor some of the inappropriate comments we figured the Victory story would generate. I have zero interest in playing favorites. If that was the case, we wouldn't have published a detailed news article about Kelly Victory's arrest. However, you and others are correct in that improvements are needed to our online commenting system. We've been hard at work to that end in the couple of weeks since we held a community forum about it here at the Pilot's office. I'm optimistic we'll have the finishing touches on a revised system very shorty. A couple of last details are being worked out now. Thanks, Brent

Jerry,
I'm not sure how "screamer" was able to post a comment anonymously. We're looking into it. In the meantime, the post has been removed.
Thanks,

State bill would withhold revenues from counties that thwart oil drilling
For what it's worth, here's the Denver Post's editorial take today on the proposed legislation and the greater issue of state vs. local jurisdiction:

Our View: Hayden students deserve better

That's how I remember it, too. And like you, I believe we will see a stronger forum sooner than later.
