So glad you are excited... I, on the other hand am disappointed for you choking the freedom of the open and interactive communication. Due to your decision I will no longer read your newspapers nor support your advertisers.
My best wishes to you, your staff and readers.
The best part of reading the newspapers on line ARE the readers contributions.
It does not matter that they are from anonymous wann-a-be writers :)) ...a pure entertainment and sometimes even funny...... at times I may gain additional perspective and insights to a topic, and that is educational and a healthy exchange of information. After all, the reporter does not "know it all".
Mainstreet Steamboat Springs Manager Tracy Barnett ..." said the city will provide $40,000 of Mainstreet’s $140,000 overall budget in 2012, down from a high of $63,000."
"1-mill increase would generate about $53,000 for the business improvement district."
Is there something wrong with this picture? Why raise the tax when that would not generate enough to even pay for the program itself? More reason to not shop downtown and "BUY LOCAL"?
Nordica, I missed the part where it said that "the extra revenues generated will be spent on high quality nutritious food". Thank you for the clarification :)
“My concern is our mission is to really do the best we can for our 2,300 kids, and we know we have 800 to 1,000 meals to serve a day in our schools,” Connelly said at the meeting. “I just have concerns that this is the best move for our school district.”
I second the concern, especially when a local volunteer organization was recently asked to provide volunteers to serve/ cut up fruit to our school age children on weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
Simple:
Boycott the Steamboat businesses that voted for the tax, shop less in Steamboat!
Why should residents of Steamboat support and subsidize Ski Corp by paying additional tax, when Ski Corp will not offer the same discounted airfare and lift tickets prices as they do for to the visitors, to them.
