In regards to Scott's run down and my unofficial record.
1988 (1987-1988) was a ok year at 334" 1989 not so good at 254" 1995 was ok at 321" 1998 was 291" 1999 was 292" 2000 was 369" 2007 was a down year at 316" compared to '06 (432"), '08 (489") and '09 (405") The 2008 event is associated with the "epic" year, other than that there does not appear to be a great correlation. What was going on in '84 (448") and '96 and '97 (441" abd 448" respectively)?
I think I have to question the statement that Steamboat is so much more expensive than Aspen and Crested Butte. Aspen is $1,499 or $1,099 if you are a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Crested Butte is $949 for a much smaller mountain. Telluride is $1,298 but you can knock that down to $998 if you buy in a group of four. There are other deals but they tend to be comparable to Steamboat's 15-day passes, etc.... My source - http://www.aspentimes.com/article/201... If you want cheap deal with the crowds. However, Vail really is the best deal going.
There is a lot of good discussion here, and I hope that if it comes to a vote this kind of information is disseminated in the community and people will take the time to be educated. This is my greatest concern about having this go to a vote - the few people that I have talked to that oppose SB 700, do so because they feel that No Steamboat 700 = No Growth, or that somehow Steamboat 700 will cause an explosion in growth (build it and they will come). That is so wrong at many levels. If people are not educated about the issues surrounding the WSSAP and 700, they are likely to throw out years of planning by people that are educated on the issues and have been thinking forward 20 years or more. My second concern is that SB 700 will impact me and those that live near me far more than most people in town, and we will not have a say in any vote because we are outside of the city limits.
