So that explains the "lock in" parties out on the local ranches... this is not responsible drinking. Unfortunately with drinking and "lock ins" comes unintended consequences such as a 25 % response by high school girls that they have been sexually assaulted. Nice statistic for such a perfect town... boys will be boys...
Alcohol has been an issue in this district for years, this BOE and others have failed miserably to deal with it and the resulting sexual assault that often accompanies it. What was the survey result a few years ago 1 in 4 high school girls claiming to be sexually assaulted. About twice the national average. That was pre this BOE and I am sure the issue still remains but is swept under the table along with alcohol. What's the attitude? Oh yeah, Boys will be boys. Do you or anyone honestly believe that the BOE or even the schools can stop this when we live in a town that people visit to Party and relax. Good Luck!!
$60,000 is one or two additional teachers, or a whole bunch of laptops, or a spanish program, or another G&T teacher, or a music program etc.... This PR campaign is a waste of money and should be stopped before it is even started. The purpose of a community board is so the members of the board who are part of the community can let people know what is going on.
Steamboat's success lies heavily on the dollars made available from the fund board. Without it, the school district will struggle. This board and prior boards have in a large part been ineffective, but were able to throw money into the school district because of the 1/2% sales tax. Without it this district will flounder. The current fund board needs to recognize that this is not play money and should rescind its decision to waste it on a PR campaign when they can probably find people within Steamboat that would volunteer time and dollars to attain the same result.
Is this even legal? Using tax dollars to support the campaign to attain more tax dollars. Doesn't the white house get in trouble when it uses its phones and resources to support the President's election. It seems the same would apply here. As much as I support the sales tax for education, this stinks...
I hope this board has enough sense NOT to enter a four year contract with the next superintendent. I also hope it finds a superintendent who can apply site based management and is secure enough in his or herself to let go of her management team and let them be the incredible professionals they are. Our past two superintendents, while good people, were control freaks that had to be involved in every decision. For site based management to work, we need a superintendent that trusts his people and can let go to focus her energies on other issues such as building schools in a hyper-inflated construction market.
I would say the issue is dead and it is time to focus on the schools instead of the personalities of the board and its administration. In two years you can do whatever needs to be done, in the meantime, our kids need our attention not the adults running the board.
You have said you have changed. I know you and I know you are capable of that. You need to prove it now to those who obviously don't know you.
I never believed this should have come out. Particularly in the manner it did. The former board members, Paula Stephenson and Pat Gleason, in my view acted far worse than anything you did.
I understand your anger two years ago. I can understand why you would be angry now. I just hope that you can put this behind you and move forward, and I believe, knowing you, you can, but if you cannot and the anger mounts and festers, then I hope you can leave the board and move on.
You are a fine person, and have done wonderful things for this district. Be that person and let this all fall of your shoulders. I accept your apologies and I hope you can except mine. I apologize for any comments I may have made regarding you. Please move forward and make our school district as great as you made Strawberry Park.

Our View: No need for PR spin
