Here's the message I got from the SSPD and the high school during my four years there (graduated 08):
Drinking is bad, and it will kill you. Never drink, never associate with people who drink, and if you get caught with a beer, be prepared to pay the price. Alcohol only leads to trouble.
Oh, but the day you turn 21, you're suddenly smart enough to be able to handle it.
In my opinion, we need more alcohol education so we see less life-threatening binges. Instead of hopelessly trying to prevent underage drinking from happening (which will NEVER happen, sorry), we need to focus on education and be more reasonable about punishments. It seems that the punishments for underage drinking get more severe every year, yet as an "underaged" member of the community I have only seen more "partying" happening.
I don't know, just a though. But obviously the current measures the community and high school have taken are not working at all. Its "us vs. them" right now.... I can't help but imagine that if the community took a different approach things would be much different.
Glad to see ACET resources being used where the community needs them most... instead of being used to dress up officers in hazmat space suits to handle some weed plants.
I live in Steamboat Two as well and noticed the drop in water pressure monday night... This is the first I've heard of this as well, I thought it was related to the water truck filling up to take water to the Milner house fire. Three days later I have to read about it in the paper? I too thought there was supposed to be a waiting period or something...
