Couple sentenced for Routt County construction scam

As long as we keep electing/appointing liberal judges, we will have more and more criminals turned back out on the street to pray on the public. The old saying that "crime does not pay" no longer is applicable in our liberal society. Then again, this offense committed by this judge pales in comparison to the judges that are turning rapists, sex offenders, child molesters, murders, thugs, etc. back out on the street to commit more heinous crimes.

Questions linger in Steamboat library stabbing

What about the possibility that Huber was defending himself while being attacked by three obnoxious, unsupervised teenagers?

YVRA reopens after plane slide stops flights

How in the world would anyone know that it was a mechanical problem before an investigation is completed. The paper shouldn't print such misleading comments i.e. guesses.

North Routt to host Snow Carnival

The Snow Carnival is a great idea and I hope it raises a lot of bucks, but we should also figure out how to charge all those snowmobilers coming in from the front range who can certainly afford to pay for trail grooming, since they can affort to spend $7000-$10,000 each on snowmobiles.

Hunters in Flat Tops found in good shape

Hunters, like anyone else that travels into the back country without checking weather forecasts should pay for their rescue. This storm was predicted quite accurately for several days preceeding their getting stranded.

Steamboat acquaintance: Kellogg was helpful with club

It's nice that other members of a social self-promotion club speak out on his behalf. Do you suppose that anyone who knows about the more seamy side of SBS real estate development is going to say anything about someone's character in a negative manner who was caught putting out a contract on the life of someone he disagrees with?

Air service funds in nosedive

There's another reason for declining number of passengers into YVRA. We now have only one airline flying in here (UA) during 9 months of the year and that monopoly has caused ticket prices to go through the roof, as you would expect with a monopoly. You can very often fly anywhere in the USA from Denver (2-3 hours) for less than you can for the price of a ticket from Denver to YVRA (26 minutres). On several occasions, I have found that I can fly from YVRA to Denver for something like $450 and then connect to other cities in the US for about $20 more. I just checked on the price of a ticket for this week to and from Denver and it was $522. It's been has high as $700+. We need to somehow break that monopoly. More people will come here if the price of a ticket was reasonable.

Our View: A close look at ‘anti-tax’ measures

TX has much lower taxes than CO and has a booming economy with plenty of revenues for state and local needs. What is it that the tax and spend people don't understand about what lower taxes can do for the economy as well as government tax revenues? I need not remind readers that right here in SBS, we have plenty of examples of the city spending on very unnecessary projects over the last decade on ventures that should have been left to the private sector. It's time we swing the pendulum the other direction.
