Candidate Sal Pace speaks in Steamboat Springs

Thanks for coming to Steamboat, Sal! You're talk was very good and you have a lot of great ideas that are focused on solutions and not scoring political points.

We need a new representative for this district because in just a few short months, Tipton has shown that he is more interested in toeing the Boehner ideological line rather than doing what is right for Western Colorado.

Pace seems to be more driven by whats right for our district than any party agenda.

Northwest Colorado energy debates heat up

Rep. Baumgardner received $4,000 from the Oil and Gas industry for his re-election campaign last year. This was the most from any sector and almost double the amount he received from any other industry.

You can see the stats here: http://www.followthemoney.org/databas...

I get it, this is politics. But Randy trying to pack the Commission like this to get his most generous donors more influence is just blatantly unethical. His bill is disappointing and we should be glad that it will most likely not pass the Senate and even if it does, Governor Hickenlooper would most likely veto it.

Candidates unclear, process unfolding in race for Sen. Al White’s spot

The selection of Bob McConnell would be the WORST choice for Senate District 8 and all of Northwest Colorado. The last thing we need right now in Denver is a hyper-partisan ideologue that only talks in conservative hypotheticals and ideals. Having convictions is a good thing but we need a state senator that can take a rational and reasoned approach to our biggest issue: the budget. The best person to do this is Jean White. Her husband's service to NW Colorado has been invaluable and who better to carry on Sen. White's work than his wife who has been with him throughout his public career.

I urge the Committee to select Jean White to be our next state senator. These difficult times call for experience, not ideologues.

Sen. Al White pushed off Joint Budget Committee

This is really too bad.

Sen. White is the sanest and most reasonable voice in Denver. We need him on this committee more than ever now.

Chuck McConnell: Baumgardner's Arizona trip

Here is the problem with his trip, Chuck:

1. Colorado is NOT a border state. We may have a significant illegal population but to put in place a law like Arizona's here does not make sense and would significantly distract resources (money, police, etc.) from other crucial duties.

2. The AZ law and Gov. Brewer have become such firebrands for the the Republican and Tea parties that Randy's attempt to get a cheap "photo-op" by getting his name next to these ideas is obvious. It is so crassly political that it should make many HD57 residents sick.

Yes, we need to reform our immigration system - on the federal level. I will say right now that any legislation that Colorado GOP members file will NOT pass. They probably won't even file it because after the election, there is no opportunity to score political points anymore. Randy may care about immigration but if he was going to take a serious effort to reform it, he should know that AZ is not CO.

Can we get a real State Rep. now?

3rd Congressional District campaigns put focus on jobs

We should all really appreciate Congressman Salazar's attention to Routt County and all of Northwest Colorado whether you vote for him or not. He has visited Steamboat two times in the past six weeks. Electorally, spending all his time in Grand Junction and Pueblo would be the smart choice but Mr. Salazar understands that his job is about much more than politics.

The Congressman was here last week to meet with firefighters and ski area officials to discuss beetle kill. Guess what happened the day after he was here? The ski area received the permit they needed to log trees in the Vogue/Voo-Doo area of the ski mountain. He knows how to get things done and CARES about Steamboat.

The only time Tipton has been up here all year was to attend a meeting of the County Republicans - obviously just a political trip. We should keep Salazar in office because he pays attention to our issues even though we are one of the smaller counties, vote-wise, in this vast district.
