Holly Thomas joined the Steamboat Pilot & Today as a copy editor in August 2012. In February 2013, she became a classified sales representative. Holly grew up in central Illinois where she spent a lot of time writing short stories, traveling to concerts and rooting for the Illini men’s basketball team. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a Master of Arts in political science from Eastern Illinois University. While at Eastern, she worked as a copy editor, political columnist, news and features writer and entertainment section editor at the student newspaper. Before pursuing her graduate degree, Holly worked in public relations at Lake Land College and Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development, both in Illinois. As a graduate assistant at Eastern, she worked as a communications specialist in the College of Education & Professional Studies and presented her research on blood diamonds internationally for two years. Before moving to Steamboat, Holly worked as a copy editor and sports features writer at the Daily Effingham News. She enjoys writing creative nonfiction, hiking with her dogs and exploring all that Steamboat has to offer.
