Teresa Ristow

Teresa Ristow joined the Steamboat Pilot & Today in August 2014 as an education, healthcare and real estate reporter. She became the newspaper’s first digital engagement editor in April 2017.

She grew up living and playing in some of the world’s largest remaining old growth redwood forests in rural southern Humboldt County, California, where she had her first taste of journalism as a broadcast reporter for her high school’s weekly radio show, South Fork News.

She attended college at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, where she majored in journalism and minored in creative writing. In college, she was an entertainment reporter and then news editor for The Siskiyou, the campus newspaper.

She was a reporting intern at the Medford Mail Tribune newspaper before being hired as education reporter in 2011, covering Oregon’s largest school employee strike in 25 years in 2012.

Teresa went on to cover higher education and the city of Ashland for the Mail Tribune and its sister paper, the Ashland Daily Tidings, until accepting her position at the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

Her hobbies include snowboarding, water-sports, camping and spending lots of time with her terrier puppy Henry.
