YES ,,,it is and will continue to be a dumb idea to spend 7 million taxpayer dollars to build a four-field complex for Triple Crown & improve existing fields to Triple Crown standards!
If anyone is worried about lost tax revenues, a 4% lift ticket tax will more than replace the tax revenues brought in by Triple Crown Sports.
Supporters of TC should dig into their tight pockets and donate, but do not ask the taxpayers to fund Triple Crown expansion (or field maintenance) without a vote of the residents.
It is one thing for a voluntary donation to be used for Triple Crown, however it very different to use tax dollars!
The supporters of Triple Crown, including the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, have donated how much?
If the Triple Crown sports complex in Hayden was a priority of the "Chamber" there should have been a serious fund raising effort. Was there? No!
If the Triple Crown sports complex near the Steamboat Springs Airport is a priority of the "Chamber" there should be a serious fund raising effort for the land acquisition, construction, financing and maintenance of the complex.
The "Strings in the Mountain" organization was able to raise the funds for the land and construction of the new pavilion, why can't the supporters of Triple Crown raise the funds for a Triple Crown sports complex?
I don't believe that the facility should be built specifically to help accommodate triple crown sports. However, I would support building a facility with multi-use fields that would allow the city to expand upon and accommodate the community needs, including drawing in triple crown sports. I say build the facility to support local recreational league soccer, softball, lacrosse, flag football, field hockey, and whatever other sports the community would like to be involved in. If the triple crown contract includes the use of these fields, that's fine. But build it for the community, not for triple crown.
driver...how can you build it for the community (with taxpayer dollars) and then allow Triple Crown to use it during the prime season and the prime hours?
If there is a need to build it for the community, then by definition there is no available prime time for usage by Triple Crown!
Perhaps Triple Crown would like to hold their events between the hours of 11pm and 8am.

is triple crown going to pay to build it? Are they going to pay to maintain it? Otherwise, hell no!

How about a scientific poll this November?
Put this and any other support of Triple Crown to a vote of the residents of Steamboat Springs!

Are you going to keep saying it is a dumb idea when you don't have the tax revenues that the tournament brings to this town?
