Seems pretty scientific to me. The science of Psycology. Show the public how illogical a seemingly logical person is, and MOST coherent people will choose to not be deceived any longer!
Hear! Hear! It is time for (a smart) change!
Please save the district more embarrassment and for once do the right thing...resign. Both Denise and John need to go. I for one never would have thought that having former district employees on the board would be such a bad thing.
Perhaps we need to examine what can be done to bar a current district employee from serving on the board, as well as a time length that a retired employee must wait until they are eligible to serve. I know that these problems exist in other districts as well and in almost all instances it has been very detrimental to those districts. Now we've seen first hand the effects of having retired teachers serve on the school board.
Come on Hammurabi, To ban all public school emploiyees from running on the board after they retire means you are proclaiming that ALL public school employees once retired will act as crazy as John D. did. Punish the masses because of one or two crazy individuals?
That would be similar to instituting a ban on driving after 9 pm for anyone because two people have driven while under the influence across Steamboat. Anyone who drives after 9 pm is going to be drunk?
I think a teacher or principal would know more of student needs and staff needs (to help them better reach student needs) than say....just a business owner. Plus they would be less likely to be "yes men" as we have seen in the past. I love having board members that actually know what is going on! They challenge non-sense and not just obey, as others in the past did.
It takes many skills and talents beyond having an opinion about student and staff needs to run a school district. Business owners bring many resources that an educator may never have the opportunity to develop in their career. Certainly teachers and principals are part of the "team" that creates great education. That is why their ideas, knowledge and opinions are so valuable.
What a sophisticated idea it was to survey the administration with an allegedly anonymous survey and then demand the results. Again an example of John De Vincentis and Denise Connelly putting agenda ahead of propriety. An astute leader could have said, I guess that's a wash, next time we will all be clear on our expectations. They would have avoided a lawsuit and maintained the confidence, trust and perhaps even the respect of their administrative team and the community.
This issue goes far deeper than the individuals continually targeted by the paper. It involves teachers, administrators, parents, the Steamboat Pilot and Today and school board members. Each and every person involved has embarrassed this community tremendously and brought disgrace to our entire school system. May you all find something to do with your lives that don't include tearing our community apart:
Here, here, "mom"---just like thet say "mom's know best!"
Our children were in school when Dr. D was the principle. We had three different incidents where Dr. DeVincentis displayed very poor judgement and ultimately showed his vindictiveness. His decisions would have had long term detrimental effects on our children had we, as parents, not been "on the scene" and paying attention. Dr. D's past and current overt efforts to satisfy his own egotistical goals are not surprising.
YES! It is time for Dr. DeVinsentis to resign and to let our community and school system try to heal.
I would like to find a person out there who has not vented their negative feelings about a frustrating situation with a boss, or a spouse, or a co-worker, or a friend, etc. to another person. I bet 95% of the population has. I have always found John to be an advocate for the kids, which doesn't always seem to be the case with others. John is vocal about his convictions... I commend him for that. Finally, shame on the newspaper for protecting the anomy of the person who dug up this negative information while defacing another man so publicly. L. Hetrick
Yes, but venting for months on end? That is not normal.
Focus on future... (Letter in April 11 Viewpoints)
Right on former parents for Dr. D!
I also had a student at Strawberry Park under Dr. D and supported him and loved him. But after reading/hearing comments from people I trust (i.e. Darcy Trask, et al), Dr. D. must resign. He is not fit to serve on our Board of Education.
I'm sorry so many residents here don't seem to understand that the "information superhighway" is a PUBLIC forum. Having been involved with email and employer/employee rights since the mid 1980s, I can't believe so many people are still unimformed.
To discover where the emails came from, all you need to do is look at Howells staff and then at the 'Pilot of the Pilot' for then it will become clear.
I guess the teachers union (SSEA) , got what they always wanted and thats a pro-teacher board. Nothing like forming an alliance against the boss to get your way! I think they call it underminding in other situations! It's all a politcal game that is played by both sides, with our children stuck in the middle. Kind of like a bitter divorce situation, wouldn't you say? It's no wonder why our youth today rebel and do what they do with their elders, it's because of these fine examples we set for them! I wonder how they are handling that new money they begged from us? Lets get it together for our kids! Get rid of the vendettas and the hate! Move on to better issues like, maintaining our now "blemmished" schools of excellence!
It is unfortunate that some people think that schools should be run for the benefit of the staff that work there over the benefit to the students (and through them ultimately to the community)
Dr D is confused about many things. Time for a change.
This is the largest response we have ever received for our Question of the Week. Read more in my Blog:

Re Dr. D: 1, the Pilot should not be faulted for retrieving publicly owned information from a publicly funded server. 2, Let's not forget Dr. D's nasty remarks to the Board last year which he had delivered by another member, then had to recant later. 3, he is an elected official and doesn't serve at his own pleasure; and 4, just because someone is an expert educator does not make him an expert administrator. Dr. D, who's "pathological" now? Please resign before it is too embarassing for you!
After reading todays developments it appears we have Joan Rivers as President and Hannibal Lector as her right hand man. Good by tax dollars for an investigation of where the Pilot got the E-mails. Who cares how they got them? Save the money to recall the President and her right hand man! She as much as asked for a recall in her statement. Reminds me of another challenge by a President. "Bring It On!" Well the Muslims have brought it on. Lets hope we bring on the recall!
looking at these numbers, every full time resident in Steamboat must have voted on this.
Some suggestions for next week's question:
Should Scott Stanford be recalled as editor?
Is the Pilot practicing tabloid journalism?
