Driver Mary Foss, left, of Salem, Mass., and her passenger escaped serious injury shortly after 11:30 a.m. when they collided with a small sedan that Foss said ran a stop sign at the intersection of Shield Drive and Curve Court. Their Volkswagen Tiguan became airborne before it landed on its side, Foss said. A witness, Joe Huselton, said the Tiguan was catapulted more than 6 feet in the air by the force of the collision. Huselton said he and a companion peeled back the broken windshield of the vehicle and helped the two women out of the vehicle. Foss, who already was wearing a knee brace, said she was on her way to make a stop at the LIFT-UP of Routt County before catching a flight home at Yampa Valley Regional Airport. The driver of the other vehicle appeared uninjured. Photo by Tom Ross
