Max, pictured, and Gibby Kenney spent the past few days building their first snow fort at their home near Soda Creek Elementary, where Max goes to school. Constructed using a snow fort kit Max got for his birthday in December, the brothers spent hours during the weekend building ice bricks to make the igloo come to life. On Sunday night, they even built a fire inside, which blew smoke out of the igloo's specially designed chimney. Photo by Ben Ingersoll

The faint constellation of Monoceros the Unicorn is home to one of the sky's finest nebulae for binoculars and small telescopes. Look for the Rosette Nebula and its associated star cluster about one-third of the way down the line connecting the bright stars Betelgeuse and Procyon. This time exposure photograph of the nebula was taken through an 11-inch telescope and reveals more color than your eye will see. Jimmy Westlake/courtesy
