Hayden Valley Elementary School teacher Kathy Deepe smiles as she is acknowledged as a Peabody Energy Leader in Education on Wednesday in her classroom. Deepe is heavily involved in the school district's drama program and was acknowledged for teaching her students how to embrace and appreciate their true abilities. Soda Creek Elementary School's Joy Clark was all smiles Wednesday after Maureen Moore presented her with a Peabody Energy Leader in Education award and $1,000 for her compassion and commitment to students. As the lead custodian for more than 12 years, Clark takes great pride in her school and continually seeks new ways to improve the learning environment for teachers and students, according to a news release. The Leader in Education program rewards dedicated education professionals who inspire and motivate youths to succeed. Award recipients are selected throughout the school year by a committee of educators and business leaders. Photo by John F. Russell
