Adopt Max: Max is a sweet, 10-year-old Pyrenees-Lab mix who was surrendered to the shelter because his owner could not keep him. He is very friendly and likes kids and cats. This cutie needs medication to keep him comfortable and mobile but still is quite active. Max has a huge heart with lots of love to give. Come meet him at the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter or call 970-879-0621 for more information. Courtesy photo

Erica Gallegher rides Payton Wendler’s horse Cinco during the Cayuse Classic on Sunday at Sidney Peak Ranch. Participants from Routt and Moffat counties competed in Western and English classes to show off their hard work and preparation for the upcoming season. For many, this was a testing ground to determine their strengths and weaknesses before they traveled to larger, more expensive out-of-town shows. In addition to being a great community event and competition, the show also benefits the Community Agriculture Alliance, and plans already are in the works for another show Sept. 14.
