2010 Olympic success raises profile of city's signature sport
No town in America showed more pride than Steamboat where people have a firm grasp on a sport that is poorly understood in the rest of the country and take pride in producing Olympic athletes. But Steamboat’s connection to Nordic combined, which combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing, stretches further than the Olympics in Vancouver.
The cowbells still might be echoing in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. It’s fair to guess that nearly every Steamboat Springs resident has a lasting memory related to the 2010 Winter Olympics, an event that arguably left greater marks on the Yampa Valley than any other this year.
