Tresa and David Moulton won first prize in the Yampa Valley Birding Club category of the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition's First Crane Sighting of the Season Contest, in which residents spotted and recorded sandhill cranes returning to the Yampa Valley throughout March. The Moultons spotted six cranes at 11:35 a.m. March 20 on Morgan Bottom Road in Hayden. The second annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival takes place September 6 to 9 in Steamboat Springs and Hayden.
