Passengers from the first-ever direct flight from Los Angeles to Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden prepare to unload this weekend. Billy Kidd was at the ramp in LAX on Saturday to greet passengers on the inaugural United Airlines flight. The 66-passenger CR7 regional jet was nearly full Saturday and again Sunday, according to a flight status report issued by Steamboat Central Reservations. Steamboat Ski Area spokesman Mike Lane estimated 40 percent of the passengers on Saturday had traveled from Australia. Making the resort more accessible for those travelers, who tend to plan extended vacations in Steamboat, was a factor in adding the Los Angeles flight to the community’s ski season flight schedule.
