Smoke rises from a controlled burn on Emerald Mountain on Tuesday afternoon. The city of Steamboat Springs was burning slash piles of beetle-killed wood. Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue firefighters will continue to monitor the burn Wednesday.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Chief Mel Stewart said firefighters were on-site Tuesday monitoring the burn and will return Wednesday.
