Local banker and philanthropist John Kerst accepts Steamboat's coveted Heritage Award on Thursday night. The award was presented to Kerst for 26 years of service here in Steamboat. At an award ceremony in Citizen's Hall, Kerst was showered with praise by his friends and colleagues. The award itself is a six-point bronze elk statue designed by local rancher and sculptor Curtis Zabel. It is awarded every two years.
