The old Baxter Tavern, rear, is one of just a couple of buildings that remain from the ranching and railroad shipping town of Sidney, south of Steamboat Springs. After its days as a saloon were over, it briefly saw duty as the Sidney Schoolhouse.

The first students in the Sidney School attended class in the former Baxter Saloon in 1896, where cowboys and railroad workers once rubbed shoulders at the bar in the long-vanished community of Sidney.
