Colorado Mountain College's Alpine Campus held its first homecoming Friday night and the event, "Snowcoming" actually was about as CMC as an event can get. Taking place at the rodeo arena at the foot of Howelsen Hill in downtown Steamboat Springs there was no football game, but there was a tug-of-war tournament that at one point pitted skiers against snowboarders. There was no parade, but there was a pumpkin carving contest with all the appropriately inappropriate college submissions. There was no king and queen, but students were crowned snowman, snowbunny, snowflake and snowballer. There were no crowns and roses for that royalty, but they were given beanies and sunglasses. There was no football captain's speech in front of the bonfire, but the student body did roar when an old ski was used to light it. With ski films playing in on a projector screen, an on-site snowboarding shop doing business and prayers over the loudspeaker for powder days, it all fit perfectly.
