Duckels Construction worker Ivan Garcia bolts together pieces of a temporary bridge where U.S. Highway 40 crosses at the East Fork of the Elk River. The temporary bridge will be used to detour traffic during a $3.1 million construction project to improve the highway, including replacing the existing bridge — which was built in 1958 and identified for replacement in 2010 because of a low sufficiency rating — widening shoulders and realigning the bridge piers.
