Bus driver Bill Blackwell waits while supervisor Mark Woolers shows firefighters from Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue the area where a small electrical fire broke out on a Steamboat Springs Transit Bus on Monday morning. Blackwell said he was visiting with another bus driver and a passenger outside the bus during a stop when he noticed smoke in the cab of the vehicle. He returned to the bus where he noticed flames coming from an electrical box near the driver’s seat. He was able to remove a cover of the box, grab a fire extinguisher nearby, and put the fire out before it could cause further damage. The bus was pulled off its route, and another bus was added and the line was back to normal service after an estimated 30-minute delay, according to Woolers. Woolers felt that the damage to the bus was substantial, but no estimates were available at the scene.

Although Stagecoach Reservoir is frozen enough to support ice fishing, there is not enough snowfall at the state park to safely accommodate a dog sled race that was scheduled there for this weekend.
