Routt County Search and Rescue never charges for services, but a mission can cost thousands of dollars when a helicopter is required. Search and Rescue volunteers go on about 50 missions a year.

Search and Rescue looks back on 4 decades of missions
Routt County Search and Rescue celebrates 40 years at a fundraiser from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill Lodge. The nonprofit organization uses the annual event to recoup mission costs and to cover general expenses such as equipment.
