Kevin McCoy, 25, of Yampa, died Jan. 23 while working to clear a rockslide from railroad tracks near Toponas. His death is thought to have been caused by previously undiagnosed cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes enlargement and weakening of the heart. A memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McCoy school.

Steamboat Springs resident Douglas Wipper was all smiles Thursday morning after taking a few runs at the Steamboat Ski Area. As of 5 a.m. Thursday, the snow total for the month of January is 104 inches. The ski area has received 244 inches so far this season, 39 inches behind last year's record pace.
