Steamboat Springs High School senior Jasper Gantic waxes a pair of skis Wednesday afternoon in preparation for today's competition in Frisco. The event is unique because it features classic and skate-skiing races. At 3.3 kilometers, the courses are shorter than the typical 5-kilometer competition distance.

The Steamboat Springs High School Nordic ski team has been bolstered early this season by the addition of athletes from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club's Nordic combined squad.
