The first section of Hayden's Creek View development is nearly finished. Real estate agent Annette Hall shows off a kitchen in one of the townhomes Tuesday. Developers Louis and Stef Nijsten, who live next door to this unit, plan to rent out some of the homes.

The parcel of land proposed for development is between the Steamboat Christian Center and Bald Eagle Lake along U.S. Highway 40.

Martin Javalera cleans new lunchroom tables Tuesday inside the new Soda Creek Elementary School. Furniture is being moved into the building this week, and the school is on schedule for an Oct. 6 opening. Soda Creek principal Judy Harris said volunteers are needed to help prepare the school for students.
