Lauren Ehrlich tosses a piece of bread into the Yampa River on Tuesday afternoon as part of a Tashlikh ceremony in Steamboat Springs. During Rosh Hashanah afternoon, it is customary to walk to a river or spring and recite special prayers at a Tashlikh ceremony. The traditional ceremony requires that pockets are emptied of all bread or cookie crumbs and cast into the water. This is symbolic of casting off sins and beginning the Jewish New Year with a clean slate.
