Demong drops to 3rd overall
Bill Demong finished fourth in a mass start Saturday as the DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup opened a two-event weekend in Val di Fiemme, Italy. Germany's Bjoern Kircheisen took the win, moving into second in the World Cup standings as Demong dropped to third.
The U.S. Ski Team moved up two spots after the jumping round to finish sixth in a four-man World Cup team event Saturday in Schonach, Germany. Germany dominated the event with the Norwegians taking second on final-leg heroics by Magnus Moan. Austria was third.
Steamboat Springs skiers finished 13th, 14th in Finland
Demong and Spillane excelled on the track. Demong had the fastest ski time, and Spillane was third, but they finished 13th and 14th because of poor jumps. Demong and Spillane tied for 31st after the jumps.
