Joey Shirley, a first-grader in Janel Florquist's class at Soda Creek Elementary School, gets a high-five from code enforcement officer Tom Whiddon on Thursday morning. Several members of the Steamboat Springs police and fire departments came to the school for the Safety First ceremony where they handed out certificates and high fives to the young students.
