If downtown property owners vote in favor of funding the downtown business improvement district in November, revenues would be used to address downtown business concerns including parking and beautification projects. The Routt County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday committed to contributing $14,000 to the district in lieu of taxes if the measure passes in November.

Former New York City firefighter Kevin Nerney fights back tears during a ceremony Tuesday honoring the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. More than 30 people showed up for the tribute at Yampa River Botanic Park that marked the sixth anniversary of the attacks on New York's World Trade Center. Many people in the crowd were from or had ties to New York City. "It's important to honor the memories of these people. Their families and friends have not forgotten them, and we shouldn't either," said Perry Ninger, who lived in New York and worked across the street from the World Trade Center before moving to Steamboat Springs.
