The May S-S Ranch sold in late September for $5 million. The pastoral character of the land is protected by a conservation easement held by the Yampa Valley Land Trust.

A couple of horses play in a snow-covered field just off U.S. Highway 40 near the base of Rabbit Ears Pass. The horses seemed to be enjoying the slippery coating of snow, but it's a sign for the rest of us that winter is just around the corner.

A truck driver who identified himself only at "TJ" hooks up chains at the base of Rabbit Ears Pass on Thursday morning. Recent storms brought several inches of snow to the area and forced truck drivers to chain up before venturing over Rabbit Ears on Thursday.

In this August 2006 photo, Tim Ingalls stands with his mother, Pat, at their Hayden home. The Hayden community rallied around Ingalls last year, supporting him with funds for medical care. Ingalls died at home last weekend. His memorial service is Saturday.
