Winter precipitation and slippery roads contributed to a variety of fender benders and other automotive mishaps across the county on Wednesday. Ten inches of snow fell Tuesday night and Wednesday at the Steamboat Ski Area. Katherine Ingalls, 16, won two national titles in cross-country skiing at the March 2007 USSA Junior Olympics in Utah. Also an accomplished bicycle racer, Ingalls was struck by a semi-trailer while cycling in June. Ingalls, in the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club weight room Thursday, is training to recuperate and compete in Junior Olympic qualifiers this winter.

Strings in the Mountains successfully lifted two 12,500-pound trusses into place for its new home Friday. Strings president and CEO Kay Clagett called the truss placement one of the more difficult steps in the construction of the summer music series' permanent venue, the Strings Pavilion. Companies involved in the project are Steamboat Architectural Associates (led by architect Bill Rangitsch), Spearhead Timberworks of British Columbia and TCD General Contractor of Steamboat. "With all the players involved, it was just very rewarding to see it work like it's supposed to," Clagett said. The trusses were the first major component to go into place above ground, Clagett said. All of the pavilion's foundation work has been completed. Construction is on schedule to have everything framed by the end of the year and have the pavilion up and running for the summer 2008 Strings season, she said. "In the next two weeks, you're going to see it come out of the ground very fast," Clagett said.
