Steamboat Springs Alpine ski racer Jimmy Hostetler led the way for the Steamboat boys at the Aspen High School giant slalom races held Friday at Aspen Highlands. He finished fifth overall with a combined time of 1 minute and 21.34 seconds. Wiley Thayer and Ben Paley also scored for the Sailors, finishing respectively, in 11th and 18th place overall. Their scores catapulted Steamboat to a fourth-place team finish. Summit again edged out Aspen for the team win, followed by Battle Mountain in third. On the girls' side, Steamboat's Erika Walters, Jamie Gay, Anna Anderson and Hanna Berglund all finished within one second of one another. Walter's finished in 20th, Gay and Anderson tied at 21st and Berglund was 23rd. The girls finished in sixth place as a team. Summit also won for the girls, followed by Aspen (2) and Battle Mountain (3). Aspen's Wiley Maple has yet to lose a high school race and added another win to his collection.
