Steamboat's Lorin Paley took a second-place women's open win in the sprint classic event at the 2006 U.S. Telemark Nationals at Big Mountain Ski Resort, Mont., to earn her a spot on the U.S. Telemark Team development squad. Paley has been thirsting for a first-place win this year and has been instrumental in gathering the support to bring the U.S. Nationals to Steamboat later this week.

Her mother, Jennifer, says she will need extra attention from a special education instructor next fall when she enrolls in kindergarten at South Routt Elementary School.

Jayme was born Feb. 15 with a condition known as autoimmune hemolytic anemia and severe case of jaundice, which required a blood transfusion. Jayme's brother Bradley, siting on the lap of the children's father, Blake, had a similar condition when he was born 19 months ago.

Jayme was born Feb. 15, and within hours, doctors realized she needed an emergency blood transfusion because of a low number of red blood cells. Colorado State Patrol had to transport the needed blood through closed roads Feb. 16 in whiteout conditions caused by snow.
