Heather Lee Scarborough, 32, of Duck, NC, died January 9, 2014. She was born on June 8, 1981, to Gerry Scarborough and Kristy Lynn Byers, in Elizabeth City, NC. Heather was a true free spirit in her love of the outdoors, in her strong desire to travel, and in her simple ways of taking pleasure in life. On her journey of life she found and accepted Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, and is now in her home in heaven.
She is survived by a large and loving family, beginning with her father, Gerry Scarborough, her mother Kristy Byers, her stepmother Theresa Scarborough, and Heather's boyfriend, Marc Bennett. She had many brothers and sisters, Matthew Scarborough and his mate Lisa Bobb, Chris Michaelis and his wife Nicole, Cammy Scarborough, Julie Michaelis and her mate Monnie O'Neal. Grandparents, Stafford and Jean Berry; her Uncle Allen and Aunt Sue Byers, and Jessica and Adrianna. She was beloved “Auntie Heather” to several nieces and nephews, Logan Stork, Kaysan Hallett, Darren O’Neill, Addison Scarborough, and Rebecca and Shontel Ayers, and Hannah Wilaby. She was preceded in death by Ethel and Levin Scarborough. Heather loved being a part of the Steamboat community whether it be snowboarding up on the mountain on a powder day, fly fishing in the Yampa, working with her Mambo's family downtown, or cross country skiing with her large circle of friends. There are numerous family members and friends in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and across the country that have been blessed to know and experience the light of Heather in their lives.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Sunday January 26, at The Grand in the Burgess Creek room.
