Timothy Frederick Ray passed away March 7, 2013, in Scottsdale, Ariz., after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife, Sheila, and his brother were at his side. Tim was born Nov. 2, 1949, in Washington, D.C., and grew up in northern New Jersey and Maryland. He was a 1971 graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in pre-vet medicine. He began his career with the U.S. Public Health Service and later served as partner with several national health care consulting firms. He and Sheila made Steamboat their part-time home for the past 20 years.
He was an avid Maryland Terrapins fan and sports enthusiast. He loved sailing the Chesapeake Bay, fly-fishing, skiing and playing golf. He was a huge Rolling Stones fan and had seen them many times in concert. He loved to cook, and he and his wife enjoyed entertaining their many family members and friends. Tim and his wife were longtime members of the Golden Retriever Rescue League and always had the loving company of two dogs, like Romeo and Rodney, who will comfort his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila; mother, Norjean Ray, of Naples, Fla.; brother Terrence, of Bethesda, Md., sisters Tricia Ray, of Naples, and Tammy Douglass, of Leesburg, Va.; and many other family members. He had a special relationship with his niece Theresa and her husband, Mason Mehrman, of Harrisburg, S.D. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred.
