Lydia LaVerne Muhme, 82, passed away peacefully at home Sept. 30, 2012, in Canon City. She was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Chamberlain, S.D., to William P. and Bessie Mae Jones. Lydia and her family moved to Denver and eventually Steamboat Springs in the mid-1940s. She was introduced to the love of her life, Henry Muhme, by her future mother-in-law. Lydia was a homemaker for most of her life, raising four children. She loved spending time with her family camping, hiking, snowmobiling and water skiing (at the age of 60) at Lake Powell as well as many other outdoor activities. She especially loved the Grandparents’ Trips where she and Henry piled the 10 grandchildren into the motorhome and headed on an adventure. Lydia and Henry moved to Canon City in 1976 and have lived there ever since.
Lydia’s loving family is as follows: husband Henry; children Sally Muth (Bob), Jay Muhme (Anne), Shirley Pennington (Frank) and Donna Walsh (Denis); grandchildren Laura Brady (Derald), Brian Muth (Sara), Levi Muhme (Jenna), Savannah Bongiorno (Jason), Henry Billet (Autumn), Jessie Pennington, Hannah Smith (Jason), Joanna Washburn (Alex), Sarah Allen (Chip) and Seth Walsh; and great-grandchildren Anthony Muth, Robert Muth, Katie Muth, Kristin Hearn, Brandon Muth, Cole Muhme, Kash Muhme, Kietalyn Bongiorno, Quinten Bongiorno, Lydia Billet, Ella Smith, Katalina Smith, Addison Washburn, Lucy Washburn, Henry Allen and Thomas Allen. She also is survived by brother Bill Jones (Rachel) and sister Claudia Savage (Hank).
A graveside service was held Oct. 6, 2012, at the Grand Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sangre de Cristo West Hospice, 601 Greenwood, Canon City, CO 81212. Arrangements were handled through Holt Family Funeral Home.
