Bob Childers

Bob was born March 31, 1929, in Columbus, Kan. His parents were Fred and Oleta Childers. He had one sister, Coleen, and one brother, Ted. When he was in the eighth grade, he went to Eagle to live with his aunt and uncle on their ranch. He graduated from Eagle High School, and then he attended Colorado State University. Bob joined the U.S. Army in 1951. He was stationed in South Carolina, Indiana and then Colorado Springs. Later, he was transferred to Camp Hale at Pando, where he was an instructor from Cold Weather Mountain Training. At that time, he was involved in training the 82nd Airborne troops in cold mountain survival.
Bob married Sandra Eaton on Nov. 27, 1952, in Eagle. This year, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob and Sandy moved to Steamboat Springs in 1965. Bob was the director for the Department of Agriculture-ASCS office for Routt, Jackson, Grand and Summit council until he retired in 1989. He was a member of the volunteer ski patrol at Steamboat Ski Area and was on the board of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church of Steamboat Springs, where he served as a board member.
Bob enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. In the ’70s, his love of the outdoors grew to include farming and raising horses and cattle. 
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Steamboat Springs; his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Terisa Childers, of Steamboat Springs; his daughters and sons-in-law Jim and Denise Pearson, of Steamboat Springs, and John and Cindy Faulkner, of Fort Collins; his grandchildren Jason and Lisa Childers, Tyler Childers, Christan and David Ikard, Jessica Lam, Ashlee Faulkner, Brian Faulkner and Jonathan Faulkner; and his great-grandchildren Josie, Macey, Lander, Terrell and Elsah.
Bob passed away peacefully May 12, 2012.
