Pat went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2011, leaving behind her children, Bill Hathaway, of Victorville, Calif,; Katie Rutherfurd, of Fallbrook, Calif.; and Robert Hathaway, of Vancouver, Wash.; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pat Sloan will be remembered by the residents of Oak Creek as an innovative woman. When she moved to Oak Creek in 1971, she had two small children and one on the way. When her baby decided to come early, Pat realized how isolated the town was and that there was no ambulance service available. She decided then and there to form a volunteer system of locals who could respond in an emergency, and thus campaigned to get an ambulance in Oak Creek.
Pat was an avid reader and has asked for donations to be made to the local elementary school library so that all may benefit. Letters of condolences may be sent to Katie Rutherfurd, 947 Palomino Road, Fallbrook, CA 92028.
