James J. Finnerty

James J. “J. J.” Finnerty, 24, died in Steamboat Springs on Dec. 13, 2011.
J. J. was born in Boulder on Dec. 27, 1986, the son of James P. and Kathleen A. Stone Finnerty. He graduated from Watertown High School in Watertown, N.Y., attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vt., and received his associate degree in liberal arts from Jefferson Community College in Watertown.
He had worked as a ski and shop technician at Dry Hill Ski Area in Watertown, as a bartender at the Sackets Harbor Comedy Playhouse and as a waiter at Carl’s Tavern in Steamboat.
He was a former member of St. Patrick’s and All Souls Unitarian Universalist Churches in Watertown. He also had been a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Watertown Hockey Association. J. J. enjoyed skiing, longboarding, lacrosse, hockey, water skiing, hunting, sailing, music and movies.
Besides his parents, of Watertown, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Betsy Bucher, of Venice, Fla.; his paternal grandparents Dr. James J. and Patricia M. Finnerty, of Cohoes, N.Y.: sisters Margaret A. “Molly” and Meghan K. Finnerty, of Watertown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. His brother, Nathan Meisenheimer, died in June 1981, and his sister Hannah M. Finnerty, died June 1, 2004.
There are no calling hours. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown with the Rev. Donald Robinson officiating and burial following in Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, of Watertown.
