Former Oak Creek resident Mary P. Williams passed away April 13, 2011, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home. She was 80.
She was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Oak Creek to Miguel and Josephina Alvarez.
She was the salutatorian of Oak Creek High School, graduating in 1948. She received her teaching degree at Colorado College of Education in Greeley. Mary was employed as a fourth-grade teacher at Mills School for 28 years until her retirement.
The most important thing in her life was her family. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching and crafts.
Mary was united in marriage to Joe Williams on Dec. 26, 1950, in Casper, Wyo. They were married for 47 years. Joe preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Engleman (Ron) of Casper; three sons, Ken Williams (Debbie), of Casper, Joe Williams (Kae), of Arvada, and Sam Williams (Donna), of Casper; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Alvarez, of Baggs, Wyo.; a sister, Henrietta Vasquez, of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was April 16, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Kevin Koch as celebrant. Interment followed in the Wyoming Memorial Garden Cemetery.
