Jean (Walters, Smith) Kashner died at age 62. She had survived many years with Lyme disease but died after a short battle with a rare cancer.
She was born and raised in Denver, where she met and married Steve Smith. They had two children, Seann and Amy. They moved to Steamboat Springs in 1978 for the children’s school and the good life of a small town. They enjoying skiing, camping and hiking.
Jean was a swimmer, artist and Steve’s dental office manager during this time. Steve and Jean divorced, and the children moved on to the University of Colorado at Boulder and points beyond in 1992.
Jean and Ron Kashner met and played gunslinger with Ron as Sheriff Hawkeye, of the Old West Gunslingers. They retired and moved to Hayden in 1994 and have lived there since. She continued swimming and enjoyed reading and gardening.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Ron; her son, Seann, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; her daughter, Amy O’Donnell and husband, Kevin; grandchildren Jacob and Emma, of Denver; and first husband, Steve Smith, of Boulder. She will be deeply missed.
She has been cremated; a summer memorial service will be announced at a later date.
