Jane M. Connor Winograsky was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Melcher, Iowa. She grew up in that area and married Albert Winograsky in 1938. The couple had two sons born in Iowa, Larry Dean and Johnny Paige, before moving to Mt. Harris in 1943. A third son, David Joe, was born to the couple.
Jane raised her three sons and taught Sunday school during the nine years the family resided in the coal mining community. In 1952, Jane and Albert built a home in Milner, where she lived until shortly before her death Nov. 17, 2010, at Sandrock Ridge Care & Rehab in Craig. She was 92.
Jane was an active member of the Steamboat Springs community, working at the Yampa Motel, Harbor Hotel and at Colorado Mountain College where she was loved by the students who were lucky enough to have her as their dorm room mother. Her “green thumb” was evident in her house full of beautiful plants, and she thoroughly enjoyed her large family.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, eldest son and one granddaughter. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
